## INTRODUCTION
This book is about how to write a model bio. A model bio is a written summary of the author’s qualifications, experience, and accomplishments. Model bios are an important part of the application process for many academic programs, including graduate programs in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and other health-related fields. They can also be a valuable addition to your résumé and LinkedIn profile.
The purpose of this book is to provide you with the information you need to write an effective model bio that will help you to stand out from the crowd and get you into the school of your dreams. This book is not intended to be a comprehensive guide to writing model bios. Rather, it is designed to give you the basic information you will need to get started. Once you have read this book, you will be able to write your own model bios, and you will have a good idea of what to include and what not to include in your bio. You will also have a better idea of how to structure your bio to make it as effective as possible. You can use this book as a guide to help you write your model bio, or you can use it as a reference to refer back to when you are writing your own bio. Whichever way you use it, this book will be of great value to you as you prepare to apply to medical school, dental school, pharmacy school, veterinary school, or any other school that requires you to submit a written model bio in order to be considered for admission to the school.
## APPENDIX: SAMPLE MODEL BIO SAMPLES
Here are some sample model bios that have been written by students who have gone through the process of applying to medical, dental, and veterinary schools. These model bios have been submitted to the schools to which they were applying, and they have been successful in getting into the schools of their choice. The model bios included in this appendix have been edited to remove any identifying information that could be used to identify the student who wrote the bio, such as the student’s name or school. They have also been edited for readability, so they are written in a style that is easy to read and understand. If you would like to use any of these model bios in your own application, you are welcome to do so, as long as you do not alter them in any way and do not claim them as your own.
## WHY WRITE A MODEL BIOGRAPHY?
If you have ever applied to a school, you have probably received an application package in the mail that included a cover letter, a resume, a statement of purpose, and, of course, the application itself. The cover letter is the first thing you will read when you open the application package, and the cover letter will set the tone for the rest of the package. It is important that your cover letter makes a good first impression on the admissions committee, so it is essential that you write a good cover letter. The same is true for your model bios and other written materials that you submit with your application. You want to make a great first impression when you submit your application materials, so you should take the time to make sure that you have written a great cover letter and model bio for each school to which you are applying. In this chapter, we will discuss why you should write model bios for your applications, what you should include in them, and how you should structure them. We will also discuss some of the things that you should avoid when writing your bio, so that you can avoid common mistakes that many applicants make when writing their model bios or other application materials. Finally, we’ll look at some model bios from students who went through the medical school application process, and we’ll show you how they were able to get into medical school and become doctors. We hope that you will use the information in this chapter to write the best model bio you can for each of the schools you apply to, and that the model bios you use in your applications will be a great help in getting you into your dream schools.
## ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Writing this book has been a great experience for me, and I am grateful to all the people who have helped me along the way. First and foremost, I would like thank my family for their unwavering support and encouragement. I would especially like to thank my mother, who encouraged me to pursue my dream of becoming a doctor, and my father, who has always been there for me whenever I needed him. I also want to thank all my friends and family members who have supported me in my quest to become a doctor. I am especially grateful to my mentors, who have taught me so much about the medical field and who have inspired me to become the best doctor I can be. Thank you to all of my teachers and professors at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, especially Drs. Robert J. Coughlin, Jr., and David A. Smith, for teaching me how to think like a physician and for encouraging me to follow my dreams. I’m also grateful for the guidance and support I’ve received from my mentors at the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) Foundation and the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME).
I would also like to express my gratitude to my agent, Michael Carlisle, for believing in me and for giving me the opportunity to write this book. I couldn’t have asked for a better agent, and it has been an absolute pleasure to work with him.
Finally, I’d like to acknowledge the following people for their help in putting this book together:
My editor at McGraw-Hill/Osborne/McGill-Hill, Dr. Anne Cushman, for her patience and for helping me to make this book the best that it could be. I could not have written this book without her help and guidance, and she has made this a much better book than it would have been if I had written it on my own. My project editor, Ms. Jennifer Fink, for all of her help in making this book a reality. My copy editor, Mr.
